Context

Coding Class is an initiative of the Danish IT Industry Association, delivered with support from Danish municipalities, in which a team of educators visits primary schools across Denmark.

Objectives

To improve ICT provision in Danish schools and ultimately make computational thinking and coding a required part of the primary-school curriculum and of teacher university college training.

Activities

Educators deliver week-long in-school projects where students learn to code using Scratch and work on a challenge set by a real company, delivered at that company's offices at the end of the week; an IoT project for older children is also being developed. Delivery moved partly online during COVID-19 school lockdowns.

Results

In 2017 the programme reached 130 classes, 2,700 children and 60 companies. Overall, about 14,000 children have participated, roughly half in school and half via the online version provided during the COVID-19 lockdown of schools.
