Context

Coordinated by the Directorate General III of the Austrian Federal Chancellery with other Federal Ministries and the Parliamentary Administration, the Cross-Mentoring Programme grew out of the 2000 pilot 'Mentoring for Women' and launched in March 2005 as a civil-service personnel-development tool.

Objectives

Create gender-balanced leadership and help motivated, career-minded female civil servants access top positions.

Activities

Mentors (managers from other Ministries) share know-how, give career-planning tips and facilitate access to professional networks; mentees also network across Ministry boundaries via workshops and networking meetings; the scheme is continuously evaluated and improved.
