Norwegian AI platform (2021) enabling teachers to generate interactive lesson slides — polls, word clouds, open questions — in minutes. USD 4.6 M seed (Sept 2023, Reach Capital); 1 M+ students; active in 100+ countries; GDPR-compliant freemium model.
Curipod is a cloud-based interactive-lesson platform developed by Norwegian educators and launched in 2021 to address a well-documented bottleneck: the time teachers spend preparing lessons.
Teachers enter a topic and grade level and the AI generator returns a complete interactive slide deck — combining polls, word-cloud prompts, drawing tasks and open-ended questions — in under two minutes, aiming to free teacher time for feedback and relationship-building while promoting active student participation.
The freemium model keeps core features free for any teacher, and the company publishes a dedicated 'Safe AI in Curipod' page setting out its GDPR-compliance posture, data-minimisation approach and age-appropriate content filters. In September 2023 Curipod raised a USD 4.6 million seed round (Reach Capital, Sondo Capital) at a USD 20 million pre-money valuation, and by 2025-2026 had expanded to 100+ countries.
Self-reported teacher surveys indicate 30-60 minutes saved per lesson using the AI feature, and the company reported over one million students reached globally at the time of its 2023 seed round. A headline claim of 23 percentage-point gains on state reading/writing tests originates from Curipod-commissioned or self-reported teacher data, not a published randomised controlled trial.
The underlying pedagogical logic — interactive retrieval practice and formative feedback — is well-supported by cognitive science, but the platform-level effect size (the 23-percentage-point claim) should be treated as preliminary until independently verified.
