Context

Digital exclusion leaves Stockport residents unable to access increasingly online-only public services (health, housing, universal credit); Good Things Foundation and local partners formed an alliance because no single agency could address this alone.

Objectives

Create a network of digital support centres across Stockport, help 5,000 residents get online and build digital confidence by 2020, and build a sustainable community-led movement beyond the funded programme.

Activities

Train-the-trainer model working through trusted community groups (libraries, charities, men's sheds, churches, volunteer health champions); created a DigiKnow directory of provision; commissioned Starting Point for tailored training; used the free LearnMyWay online course platform; built a 13-member strategic Alliance and a Partner Network of 35 community organisations (19 existing + 16 new OCN members, including 16 community libraries).

Results

Self-reported 6,200 residents reached against an original target of 5,000; the network-member target of 30 was overachieved; a further £50k GM Digital funding bid was successful for April 2020-March 2021 delivery, with an evaluation phase planned for January-March 2021. Source explicitly states no evaluation had been conducted at time of writing.
