Context
iDEA (Inspiring Digital Enterprise Award) is an international programme, based in London and led by a team associated with Buckingham Palace, providing free online digital-skills modules ('badges') across five categories — Citizen, Worker, Maker, Entrepreneur and Gamer — modelled on The Duke of Edinburgh Award; the Bronze award launched in January 2017 following background research with teachers and industry experts.
Objectives
To support the development and accreditation of digital skills so individuals have more opportunities to become economically active, and to help address the digital skills gap.
Activities
Free, self-paced online badge modules covering topics such as cyber security, cloud computing, e-safety, animation, growth hacking, customer relationship management and web development; an Organiser Management System (OMS) lets organisers register, track learner progress and issue certificates. Some UK councils (e.g. Stockport and Wigan) signpost learners to iDEA to boost digital inclusion.
