Context

Mauritius has invested over a decade in digital-inclusion infrastructure through the Mauritius Digital Promotion Agency (MDPA) and its predecessor, the National Computer Board, which is registered with the ITU's WSIS database for national e-strategy work.

Objectives

Digital Lab on the Go (DLOG), launched in April 2024 as the successor to MDPA's 'Cyber Caravan', aims to bring hands-on technology demonstrations and e-government literacy directly to underserved regions and specific groups such as the elderly.

Activities

A mobile unit demonstrates virtual reality, robotics and sensors, 3D fabrication, IoT/GIS and e-government services across communities. In September 2024, a partnership with the Ministry of Social Integration delivered sessions for seniors on e-government services, online communication and recognising digital scams at a recreation centre in Belle Mare, with further sessions planned at other elderly recreation centres.

Results

In its initial months, the programme reached over 3,500 citizens across 30 regions; the September 2024 elderly outreach session trained approximately 175 seniors.

Conclusions

The programme is government-funded and actively expanding, with a target of reaching 8,000 additional citizens by June 2025, but participation figures are self-reported attendance counts rather than pre/post skills assessments, and no independent evaluation or budget has been published.
