Context

Empower is a coalition of seventeen women's organisations in Malta, launched during the events marking the International Day of the Girl Child in October 2017, with parallel events held in Malta, the European Parliament and Canada. The platform was inspired by then-President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and brings together bodies such as Business and Professional Women in Malta, the Malta Confederation of Women Organisations, Soroptimist Malta and the National Council of Women, among others.

Objectives

The platform aims to give women's organisations a stronger, unified voice in the debate on equality, to inspire women and girls to take on leadership roles, and to engage a wider audience — including men, employers and other societal actors — in building an inclusive gender culture.

Activities

Seventeen member organisations operate under a shared umbrella, using awareness-raising, networking and benchmarking as their main methods of collaboration.

Conclusions

The catalogue entry presents Empower as a promising vehicle for building a leadership culture around gender equality by engaging both women and their wider social networks; no independent outcome study accompanies this description.
