Farmerline's voice-first Mergdata platform delivers weather, market-price and agronomic advice plus digital credit to over 2 million smallholder farmers in 50 countries; Acumen Lean Data and the Green Climate Fund report independently verified poverty-targeting and yield gains.
Farmerline (founded 2013, Kumasi, Ghana) built the voice-first, multilingual Mergdata platform to close the digital- and financial-inclusion gap for smallholder farmers, reaching feature-phone and smartphone users across roughly 50 countries.
The '911 for Farmers' helpline has messaged more than 1 million farmers across West Africa, with roughly 100,000 calling in for agronomic advice. Acumen's Lean Data unit found Farmerline reaches farmers poorer than the Ghanaian rural average (54% living in poverty versus a 32% national rural average).
A Digital Credit Module is the subject of an ongoing J-PAL/IPA randomised controlled trial enrolling 2,000 farmers in Ghana's Ashanti Region, but results are not yet available. The Green Climate Fund states Acumen's outcomes were externally verified by 60 Decibels, though the original Acumen report itself could not be directly located and should be treated as secondary-sourced pending confirmation.
Implementation detail (cost, timeline, staffing, conditions for success) is not yet available for this practice.
