FITT — IIT Delhi's Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer

The Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT) was registered as a society on 9 July 1992, set up by IIT Delhi following a 1986 institute review that called for a dedicated body to manage industry collaboration.

FITT was created to give IIT Delhi a dedicated body for managing industry collaboration, covering IP management, technology licensing, R&D collaboration and start-up incubation.

FITT handles IP management, technology licensing, R&D collaboration and start-up incubation on behalf of IIT Delhi.

Over its history, FITT reports supporting more than 1,618 IPR filings (over 1,300 of them patents), more than 185 technology transfers to industry, more than 150 start-ups incubated and over 2,100 industry collaborations. Independent reporting on a single strong year illustrates the trend: in 2019, IIT Delhi filed 150 intellectual property applications through FITT — a 20% increase over 2018 and the institute's highest ever in a single year — alongside a reported four-fold increase in revenue from IP licensing compared with the previous year.

Public reporting does not disclose the absolute revenue figures behind that four-fold increase, so the scale of licensing income in dollar or rupee terms could not be independently verified beyond the reported growth rate — the cumulative totals above should be read as FITT's own reporting rather than independently audited figures.
