The GE-HEI (Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions) project, funded by the EEA Grants 2014-2021 Gender Conciliation and Equality Programme, develops a national framework and gender-mainstreaming initiatives to raise awareness and support women's academic careers in Portugal.
Published project results found that despite women being the majority of students and near-parity in faculty composition, only about a quarter of top career positions and less than a third of leadership positions in teaching/research institutions are held by women.
