Context

Generation 0101 was developed to tackle the low number of young people with the skills and drive to become IT professionals. It was a strategic partnership between six countries: Croatia, Cyprus, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Turkey, aiming to demystify IT professions as hard to reach and give young unemployed people the chance to explore IT career possibilities.

Objectives

Strengthen partners' position nationally and at EU level and develop their skills in fostering Digital Agenda policy change, curriculum development for digital-industry skills, and using digital tools for social inclusion in local communities.

Activities

Seven partner organisations studied Digital Agenda implementation in their countries with a focus on youth unemployment, and developed 7 educational modules (E-journalism, Web design, Online collaboration tools, Easy coding, Video, Mobile application, Community radio). 37 trainers were trained to work with over 300 young people across the participating countries, and a week-long Hackathon was held in each partner country where young people built ICT solutions for local organisations.

Results

The National Agency evaluation scored the project's implementation and results at 90/100. The Croatian National Agency awarded it a 'Good Practice Example' flag and the European Commission awarded it a 'Success Story' flag. The project received EUR 270,854.73 from Erasmus+.

Conclusions

The project gave young unemployed people and teaching staff the opportunity to become IT experts through training and education programmes; there is good evidence of success and the project is considered ready to be replicated elsewhere.
