Cisco Networking Academy (NetAcad) is a Cisco corporate social responsibility initiative that began in 1997 after Cisco donated networking equipment to a local school and then trained staff to use it, growing into a global digital-skills education programme.
NetAcad aims to equip students with applied digital skills so they can enter the job market ready to work, with a curriculum spanning casual learners through professional qualifications.
The programme offers a blended-learning curriculum of 31 courses (1200+ hours) in over 20 languages, delivered via a cloud platform through partnerships with universities, schools, government and community training centres and NGOs; some projects target specific groups such as refugees in France.
To date, 10.9 million students have accessed NetAcad across 180 countries, taught by 25,600 teachers in 12,100 academies; in the EU it is adopted by more than 3,000 institutions, with $2.6 billion in in-kind CSR contributions to date.
The programme is described as having sustained and scaled operations for over 23 years, framed as an example of enabling broad access to the technology employment pipeline.
