GlobeDock Academy — Offline AI Learning for Rural Ethiopian Secondary Students

GlobeDock Academy is an offline-first, AI-powered digital learning platform for Ethiopian secondary students (grades 7-12), developed by Learning Loop Tech Solutions PLC, a company founded in 2022 and based in Addis Ababa. It lets students download curriculum-aligned lessons and study without an internet connection, addressing the fact that over 60% of Ethiopian secondary schools lack reliable connectivity.

The platform aims to widen access to quality secondary education for students, particularly girls and those in rural and underserved communities, who are excluded by poor infrastructure and connectivity.

A proprietary AI-agentic system automates roughly 70% of more than 5,000 curriculum-aligned lesson units spanning mathematics, science, English and social studies, downloadable for offline use. The organisation has also delivered TVET skills training to women workers at an industrial park.

Since its September 2023 launch the platform has registered more than 42,000 users across over 200 towns nationwide. It was selected for the Mastercard Foundation's inaugural EdTech Fellowship (2024) among 12 African EdTech startups, receiving equity-free funding and mentorship, and was recognised by the UNESCO SDG4 Education Knowledge Hub and selected as an MIT Solve solution.
