Description

In March 2019, Vækstfonden (the Danish state's growth and investment fund) and Greenland Venture A/S (owned by Greenland's Home Rule Government) finalised a 220 million DKK risk-capital partnership — 198 million DKK from the Danish state and 22 million DKK from Greenland's government — structured so each fund holds 100 million DKK earmarked for 50/50 co-investment in Greenlandic growth companies. The agreement grew out of a 2018 economic package negotiated between Denmark's and Greenland's heads of government.

Named co-investments made jointly by Greenland Venture and Vækstfonden include Greenland Anorthosite Resources (approximately 1.5 million DKK from each fund), Bluejay Mining plc (£2 million from each fund), and the Greenlandic family company Usisaat. All major commitments are assessed and entered jointly, with each fund covering half of any deal.

The fund's documented portfolio skews toward capital-intensive mining and resource-extraction projects rather than a broad innovation economy of technology or knowledge-based firms, and only a handful of individual deals could be verified — no aggregate figure for total companies funded, jobs created or portfolio-wide returns has been published. Primary reporting on the fund is in Danish and Greenlandic only; no major English-language financial press coverage was found, a sourcing limitation worth flagging alongside the extractive-sector concentration.
