ITU–EY AI Skills Accelerators for Young Women — Msida & Valletta, Malta

As part of the ITU–EY AI Skills Accelerator for Girls, a two-year program targeting 1,000 girls and young women across 12 countries, Malta held two workshop sessions in October 2024: one on 16 October at the EY Regional Business Centre in Msida, and one on 29 October at the Mediterranean Conference Centre in Valletta. The sessions were organised jointly by the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA), the Ministry for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, ITU's Telecommunication Development Bureau, and EY.
Open to women aged 18 to 25, the free sessions covered AI fundamentals, machine learning, data handling and coding, together with the ethics, bias and risks of AI, with the stated goal of helping participants become AI-literate content creators and innovators able to address community-level problems. The Valletta session was held alongside EY's Global Innovation Forum.
As with other sites in the program's first cohort (13 workshops, 470+ participants across six countries), ITU and EY report aggregate gains in participants' technology knowledge and confidence from post-session surveys, but no Malta-specific outcome data, and no independently controlled evaluation, has been published. MDIA has folded the initiative into its ongoing digital-skills services, which suggests institutional continuity, though the strength of evidence for actual learning impact remains limited to organiser-reported survey results.
