JIC — South Moravian Innovation Centre: Public-University Start-Up & Knowledge-Transfer Hub

JIC (Jihomoravské inovační centrum / South Moravian Innovation Centre) is a public knowledge-transfer and start-up agency founded in 2003 and jointly owned by the South Moravian Region, the City of Brno and four Brno public universities, connecting researchers with entrepreneurs and investors.
An EU Regional Policy case study documents concrete early outcomes: by 2012 JIC's incubated companies employed nearly 300 people (44% in R&D roles), generated close to EUR 21 million in turnover and launched 53 new products or services, built on total project investment of EUR 12.5 million (of which EUR 9 million came from the European Regional Development Fund). Selection is competitive — historically about 1 in 12 applicants was accepted. Later sources put cumulative jobs created by JIC-incubated start-ups at over 1,400, and note more than 100 companies incubated and roughly 360 researcher-company collaborations brokered since founding.
Most of the detailed operational figures (turnover, jobs, products) available in public sources date to around 2012, so the centre's more recent performance is less independently documented than its founding decade. No public data on gender or other equity dimensions of supported founders was found.
