Politecnico di Milano's technology-transfer district has ranked in the world's top 5 university business incubators for three straight UBI Global editions; in 2019 its 185 portfolio companies reached over €40M combined turnover and 1,000+ jobs.
PoliHub is the technology-transfer district and startup accelerator of Politecnico di Milano, run by Fondazione Politecnico di Milano from the university's Bovisa campus. Founded in 2000 as the university's "Acceleratore d'Impresa", it evolved into a mixed innovation district that houses both incubated startups and 20+ established technology companies alongside the university's patent and licensing office.
In the UBI Global World Rankings of Business Incubators and Accelerators, PoliHub placed in the global top 5 for university business incubators for three consecutive editions, ranking 4th worldwide in the 2019–2020 edition out of 1,580 initiatives assessed (364 completing the full evaluation, from 78 countries). According to PoliHub's own published growth figures, its 185 portfolio companies reached a combined turnover of over €40 million and received cumulative investment of more than €19.8 million, generating over 1,000 jobs; a later independent account put incubated-company survival at 83% and lifetime combined revenue above €200 million since 2000.
The model concentrates resources on one university and one city, and the strongest published figures come from PoliHub's own communications rather than an independent audit, so the turnover and job numbers should be read as self-reported programme totals rather than a controlled impact estimate; no disaggregated data on the diversity of founders was found in the sourced material.
