Joint SDG Fund Programme for Gender-Responsive Population Data (Barbados)

The Joint SDG Fund Programme for Integrated Population Data and Policy Solutions, implemented in parallel in Barbados and Montserrat by UNFPA in partnership with UN Women, national statistical offices and civil society, ran for two years and concluded November 2024.

Advance SDG 3 and SDG 5 by strengthening access to real-time, sex-, age- and disability-disaggregated demographic data for policymaking.

In Barbados: a Baseline Study on Priority SDG Indicators; government capacity-building in the National Transfer Accounts Model; the country's first national measurement of time spent on unpaid domestic and care work by gender, supported by the Barbados Statistical Service, computer tablets and six trained field officers. In parallel, Montserrat produced a draft Sexual and Reproductive Health Policy, a Population Situation Analysis, a Civil Registration and Vital Statistics study, and SDG 5 indicator training.

Barbados produced its first-ever national gender-disaggregated measurement of unpaid domestic and care work time. Results were independently confirmed by both UN Women's Multi-Country Office for the Caribbean and the UN Resident Coordinator's Office for the Caribbean (reporting published late November 2024). Total funding and any plans for institutionalising the new data systems beyond the two-year grant period were not disclosed.
