A presidential decree instructs Kazakhstan's government to bring artificial intelligence into every secondary school by 2029. The government must approve a full 2026-2029 action plan by 1 July 2026, and by 1 June 2026 submit proposals for a pilot in selected schools.
The pilot covers 500 schools nationwide over three years. Kyzylorda and Pavlodar regions go first on 1 September, testing AI-powered tools in mathematics, digital literacy and native-language classes. Pilot schools must have reliable high-speed internet by 1 August 2026; national standards for AI use in secondary education are due by 1 September 2026; and a plan for continuous AI-related teacher training is due by September 2026. The roadmap's stated focus areas are personalised learning systems, digital infrastructure, teacher training and protection of students' personal data.
As of today, this is a decree and a pilot launch plan, not a completed intervention: no classroom results exist yet, and commentary (e.g. Eurasia Review) has noted the government is moving on AI in schools while still not having finished drafting basic education laws in the state language — a reminder that ambitious technology timelines can outpace the administrative groundwork underneath them.
