LIFE Pyrenees4Clima ('Towards a climate-resilient transborder mountain community in the Pyrenees') is an EU LIFE Strategic Integrated Project running from October 2023 to 2031, with a total budget of approximately €19.8 million (60% EU-funded) across 46 partners in seven Pyrenean territories: Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Aragón, Catalunya, Navarra, Euskadi and Andorra. It is coordinated by the Pyrenean Climate Change Observatory (OPCC-CTP).
In Andorra, the national research institute Andorra Recerca + Innovació (AR+I) runs the country's pilot activities: an altitudinal temperature-gradient and snow-modelling control zone, a water-resources model combining hydrology, seasonal forecasting and climate scenarios, adaptation planning for ski-resort forest management, and a low-cost air-quality monitoring pilot with the Universities of Barcelona and Navarra.
On wildfire, the consortium's first cross-border technical output is a monograph on climate risks in the Pyrenees, proposing 16 measures and explicitly recommending the recovery of traditional silvopasture (grazing-based fuel management) to reduce wildfire risk. As of the latest reporting the programme is still in its early implementation phase: it has produced risk assessments and pilot infrastructure rather than measured reductions in fire incidence, water stress or biodiversity loss, so its evidence base today is a funded, structured monitoring and planning framework rather than demonstrated on-the-ground impact.
