The Luxembourg Women in Finance Charter (WiF Charter) was launched in March 2023 by the Luxembourg Bankers' Association (ABBL), ALFI, ACA, LuxCMA, LuxFLAG, and LuxSE, and is endorsed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Finance, as a commitment by signatory firms to achieve greater gender balance and inclusivity across the financial services sector.
The Charter encourages each signatory to set its own measurable objectives to promote gender balance, including in leadership and decision-making positions, aiming to build a solid talent pool and greater diversity of thinking, experience, and leadership styles.
By signing, companies commit to promoting the progression of women at all levels including senior and board roles, appointing an Accountable Executive responsible for gender diversity and inclusion, setting internal targets and action plans, and publicly reporting progress against these targets annually.
In its first year, 71 organisations employing 43% of Luxembourg's financial sector employees (27,996 workers) signed the WiF Charter.
ABBL frames the initiative within broader sector objectives, including raising awareness of diversity management, providing 'Women in Leadership' training, promoting the UN Women's Empowerment Principles, and developing a cross-sectoral Diversity Barometer and KPIs to monitor member progress.
