Description

The National Centre for Technology Transfer SR (NCTT SR) is an association formed in 2015 by seven Slovak public universities, the Slovak Academy of Sciences and the Centre for Scientific and Technical Information SR (CVTI SR) to coordinate intellectual-property protection and commercialisation across the country's public research system, run day-to-day through CVTI SR's own Centre for Technology Transfer and a national technology-transfer portal (NPTT).
On 20 December 2022 this infrastructure produced Slovakia's first known agreement transferring intellectual property created at Slovak public universities since 1989: Comenius University in Bratislava, Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice and Masaryk University in Brno signed a deal with the financial holding group FABA Capital to license a patent-pending technology — new miRNA biomarkers that help predict the success of IVF embryo transfers. The IP was transferred to a new spin-off, FETUS IVF a.s., set up by FABA Capital to commercialise it, alongside a new fabaincube incubator for further academic-project commercialisation.
The scale is still modest: CVTI SR's own Patent Fund reported total revenue of only €220.47 in 2022, underlining that this is an early-stage system whose national coordination structure is mature but whose commercial throughput remains very thin. The value of the practice lies in proving the model can produce a real deal at all, not in the deal's financial size.
