Context

Ngôi nhà Bình yên (Peace House), established 2007 by the Center for Women and Development under the Vietnam Women's Union, runs shelters offering free accommodation, legal aid, counselling and vocational training to survivors of domestic violence, abuse and trafficking.

Results

With UN Women support, the model expanded into a network across Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa. Over 17 years it has directly assisted more than 1,665 women and children; in 2023 it was formally registered as a social assistance centre.

Conclusions

A 2019 national survey found around 90% of GBV survivors in Vietnam still do not seek support from local authorities, showing even an established, multi-city model reaches only a fraction of those in need.
