Description

Nicaragua's Ministry of Education (MINED) launched a nationwide "Curso especializado de Herramientas en Inteligencia Artificial" on 27 October 2025, delivered over five weeks via a Moodle platform hosted by the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-Managua). The course enrolled roughly 6,000 school directors, sub-directors and pedagogical advisors drawn from Basic Education, Secondary Education, the National Technological Institute (INATEC) and the National Council of Universities (CNU), making it one of the largest single AI-training cohorts documented for school leadership in Central America.

The curriculum covered AI-assisted text, video and image generation for instructional materials, framed explicitly around "responsible and ethical" use, and sits alongside a companion national guide ("Cartilla de Uso y Manejo Responsable y Ético de la Inteligencia Artificial para Maestras y Maestros") and an AI-tools catalogue distributed to educators as part of Nicaragua's 2022–2026 national education strategy, "Bendiciones y Victorias."

Evidence is descriptive and government-self-reported: MINED and an independent domestic outlet confirm the course ran and its stated enrolment, but no independent third party has published skills-gain, classroom-adoption or student-outcome data, and this is the programme's first cohort rather than a demonstrated multi-year track record.
