Cameroonian startup OSIA uses generative AI to analyse students' academic results and psychotechnical tests, producing a personalised orientation verdict and a 20-language chatbot tutor. It reported 13,500 subscribers across 23 schools in four regions by 2025.
Cameroon has persistently uneven exam outcomes — a baccalauréat pass rate of 47.45% in 2025 and 37.26% in 2024 — a gap that has fuelled demand for school-orientation tools; OSIA is a Cameroonian edtech start-up founded in 2022 by mathematician Frédéric Ngaba and Adidja Nezang Sale to address it with AI.
OSIA aims to give students personalised study-track guidance using generative AI, alongside exam-preparation resources and multilingual tutoring support.
The platform offers a 'tropicalised chatbot' virtual tutor in twenty languages, a database of more than 400 past exam papers from top schools, and a preliminary orientation verdict (VPO) that analyses a student's academic profile and psychotechnical test results to recommend a study track; the service costs 3,000 CFA francs (about US$5) per year in Cameroon and €10 internationally.
By 2025, OSIA reported over 13,500 active subscribers deployed across 23 schools in four regions of Cameroon, and Cameroon's Secretariat for Private Secular Education (SEDUC) authorised its use across 446 private secondary schools in the Centre region.
No independent study has evaluated the accuracy of OSIA's recommendations or their effect on student outcomes, adoption figures are self-reported by the company, and education professionals caution that the AI cannot replace the emotional connection of human guidance counsellors; no published data-protection framework describes how students' academic records are handled.
