Description

On 25 March 2026, Spain's Ministry of Education, Vocational Training and Sport announced a national "AI in Education" programme to build the government's own artificial-intelligence assistant, backed by €140 million earmarked for digitalisation and AI in school management.
The stated goal is de-bureaucratisation: reducing the administrative workload that, according to figures cited by the ministry itself, 95% of teachers say takes time away from lesson preparation and support for struggling students. The assistant is designed as a personalised virtual aide for each teacher, integrated into the regional platforms already in use (such as Séneca, Educamos and TokApp), rolling out gradually through 2026 and 2027.
The ministry frames government ownership of the tool — rather than reliance on private platforms — as a way to retain control of educational data and content.
Teaching unions STES-Intersindical and CCOO said they had not been notified before the launch was announced and raised concerns about algorithmic bias in the system, an unresolved transparency gap at the programme's outset.
