Palau's EDCR Gender, Age and Disability-Inclusive Disaster Risk Management Training

Palau's National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) and Bureau of Ageing, Disability and Gender (BADG), together with UNDP, the Palau Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the Pacific Community (SPC) and the Omekesang Association of Palau, ran a one-day workshop in Koror on 10 February 2021. It was delivered under the Japan-funded UNDP project "Enhancing Disaster and Climate Resilience through Improved Disaster Preparedness and Infrastructure" (EDCR), launched in March 2019.
The training built the capacity of 42 national and community disaster responders (21 women, 21 men) to apply gender-, age-, disability- and culturally-sensitive approaches across the before/during/after phases of emergency response, aligned with Palau's Disaster Risk Management Framework, Gender Mainstreaming Policy and National Disability Inclusive Policy.
Caveat: publicly available sources document this as a single capacity-building workshop. No outcome evaluation, cost data, or evidence of downstream changes in actual disaster response practice has been published, so the practice should be read as a documented first step in gender mainstreaming rather than a proven-impact case.
