POTRAZ and the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter trained 35 persons with disabilities from Lupane, Dete and Binga in foundational ICT skills, completing in June 2026 and winning a 2026 WSIS Prize for advancing digital inclusion of people with disabilities.
In Zimbabwe, people with disabilities often face barriers to gaining foundational digital skills, particularly outside major cities. The telecoms regulator POTRAZ partnered with the Internet Society Zimbabwe Chapter to close this gap in Matabeleland North province.
The training programme, completed on 21 June 2026 in Lupane, taught 35 persons with disabilities from the districts of Lupane, Dete and Binga foundational ICT competencies: accessing information, digital communication, and using practical tools and applications for education, employment and entrepreneurship.
The project was recognised with a 2026 WSIS Prize in the Access to Information and Knowledge category, selected by the International Telecommunication Union from nearly 1,600 submissions across more than 120 countries after review by over 400 experts. Zimbabwe's ICT minister received the award at the WSIS Forum 2026 in Geneva.
Available sources confirm the completed cohort size and the international recognition, but do not publish a formal outcome evaluation - such as post-training employment or technology-use follow-up - so demonstrated impact is limited to the reported training numbers rather than measured downstream results.
