Launched 11 March 2026, ProAI is a three-year IDB technical-cooperation programme with Haitian tech hub Banj to train at least 125 developers, students, private-sector staff and officials in AI, building a national expert network and an AI roadmap by 2028.
On 11 March 2026, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and Haitian technology hub Banj officially launched ProAI — the 'Programme de création d'opportunités numériques en Haïti par l'intelligence artificielle' — a three-year technical-cooperation project running through June 2028.
ProAI aims to train at least 125 participants, including software developers, university students, private-sector professionals and public-administration officials, in practical AI skills. The programme's stated goals are to mobilise a national community of AI practitioners, raise public awareness of AI's economic potential, and publish a national AI roadmap by 2028.
Since launch, activities have consisted of an open call for applications, the formation of initial training cohorts, and regional information sessions; Haitian outlets Juno7 and Chokarella reported on the launch alongside the IDB's own project page. The programme arrives against a backdrop of severe disruption to Haiti's education system, including over 1,600 school closures reported nationally in 2025.
As a newly launched initiative, ProAI has not yet produced participant outcomes, completion data or independent evaluation; the practice is included here as a documented, funded commitment rather than a proven result, and should be revisited once cohort data becomes available.
