The initiative helps build a modern and inclusive educational system in Macedonia, based on wide use of ICT by students with different types of disabilities. AIMS: 1. To enhance educational opportunities and enable ICT access for students with disabilities in schools in Macedonia
The Project for e-Accessible Education equipped 31 primary schools in Macedonia (roughly 10% of the country's schools) with assistive computer peripherals and trained teachers, professional staff and parents to support students with disabilities, with USAID support.
Over 1,000 teachers and school staff were trained; 4 teacher manuals were produced; 20 primary-school textbooks were converted to e-accessible format. Over 90% of students said the computer was easier to use with the assistive technology, and over 90% of parents reported improved educational opportunities.
Following the project's positive reception, the Macedonian government requested EU funds to extend assistive technology to all primary and secondary schools nationally.
