Context
EIFL's Public Library Innovation Programme (EIFL-PLIP) is a transnational capacity-building initiative for public libraries in developing and transition-economy countries, launched in November 2009 with funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and run by EIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries).
Objectives
It aims to help public libraries introduce ICT-based services for community members who most need them (e.g. unemployed people, elderly people, marginalised young people), and to build librarians' skills to design, run and demonstrate the impact of these services so they can advocate for government support.
Activities
Activities include training librarians in digital skills and impact measurement, offering scholarships, running international knowledge-sharing and networking events, and partnering with national library authorities on professional-development systems for librarians and local trainers.
