Ravenstvo, a Kyrgyz women-with-disabilities-led NGO, delivers counselling, training and advocacy against gender-based violence. UN-backed surveys found up to 93% of disabled women had faced abuse; its work coincided with 2025 Kyrgyz law reforms toughening penalties.
Ravenstvo ('Equality'), a women-with-disabilities-led public association founded in 2014 in Bishkek, runs peer counselling, life-skills and violence-prevention training and advocacy for women and girls with disabilities, funded through UN Women's UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women.
Its 2023-24 grant cycle directly targeted over 280 women with disabilities out of an estimated 102,000 nationally; a 2025 Ravenstvo-led survey of 150 women across seven regions found 93% had experienced some form of abuse, yet only 8 had sought help from police or medical services.
As of 2021, Amnesty International documented only two domestic-violence shelters nationwide, neither disability-accessible nor government-funded; Ravenstvo's programming remains dependent on international donors rather than domestic public funding.
