Context

Denver Public Schools (90,000+ students, roughly 5,000 bused daily across 207 schools) co-developed RouteWise AI with student-transportation company HopSkipDrive over roughly five years, before it was licensed to other districts starting in the 2024-25 school year.

Results

Colorado Springs School District 11 increased its share of 'highly utilized' bus routes by 46%, recovered more than 17,000 instructional hours in a single school year through improved on-time bus arrivals, and cut its route count from over 100 to 55 (nearly a 50% reduction). HopSkipDrive reports identifying more than $100 million in cumulative projected savings across districts using the platform, including over $500,000 in annual savings reported by Denver Public Schools. Aurora Public Schools (Colorado) and Dayton Public Schools (Ohio) also adopted the platform.

Conclusions

The $100 million cumulative savings figure and much of the outcome data originate from HopSkipDrive's own reporting and press materials, corroborated by trade-press interviews with named district officials rather than an independent audit. Colorado Springs D11's route reductions also coincided with the closure of ten schools in fall 2024, which would itself shrink route counts independent of any AI optimization.
