Context

Women, youth and refugees in Uganda's Abim, Gulu, Lira, Isingiro and Koboko districts face low literacy, limited smartphone access and a digital-financial-skills gap, including smallholder farmers and refugee communities.

Objectives

Narrow the digital and digital-financial literacy gap for women, youth and refugees, targeting 90,000 people trained by project close in 2024.

Activities

Kampala-based tech hub Hive Colab, with UNCDF and Uganda's National IT Authority (NITA-U), built a Digital Literacy and Digital Financial Literacy Toolkit in five local languages, hosted on NITA-U's open-source IVR platform, and delivered it through 10 local NGO 'anchor partners' and 300 trained Trainers of Trainers.

Results

By end-2022, an interim 55,000 people had been reached against the full-project target of 90,000 by 2024; no confirmation of the final total was located.
