Seychelles' National AI in Education Framework 2026–2030

Seychelles' Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, with World Bank technical assistance, developed a National AI in Education Framework 2026-2030, approved by Cabinet on 31 July 2026, integrating AI progressively into primary and secondary curricula rather than as a standalone subject.

The framework aims to build AI literacy alongside critical thinking and ethical decision-making, establish a four-level National Teacher AI Competency Framework with mandatory micro-credentials, designate an AI Champion in each school, and set safeguards — data-privacy rules, child-protection standards, and mandatory human retention of final authority over high-stakes decisions such as grading and certification.

Two initial pilots accompany the launch: an AI Teacher Coach Programme supporting Primary 5-6 teachers' lesson planning across six schools, and an AI Student Tutor Programme offering personalised support in mathematics and geography to Secondary 3 students across four schools, overseen by a newly created National AI in Education Steering Committee.

As of the framework's approval, both pilots have only just begun and no usage or learning-outcome data has been released; the initiative represents a newly approved national policy rather than an evaluated programme.
