The Singapore Student Learning Space (SLS) is a national online learning platform built by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and GovTech, first deployed across all government schools in 2018 and now serving approximately 500,000 students and teachers from primary through pre-university level. Since 2022, MOE and GovTech have added AI-enabled features including an Adaptive Learning System for mathematics and geography, an Authoring Copilot for lesson generation, a Short Answer Feedback Assistant for auto-marking (reviewed by teachers before release), and an Appraiser Testimonial Generator.
According to MOE/OECD TALIS 2024 data, 75% of Singapore teachers use AI to teach or facilitate learning and 82% agree AI helps them formulate or improve lesson plans, among the highest rates in any OECD system. The platform handled 300,000 concurrent users during COVID-19 and received the Public Sector Transformation Service Delivery Excellence Award 2023 and the Minister's Innovation Award 2022.
No independent randomised controlled trial has yet isolated the effect of the AI features specifically on student attainment.
