Description
Skye is a voice-based AI maths tutor from Third Space Learning, an English provider of school tutoring. The company says it was designed using insights from more than two million one-to-one human tutoring sessions, and it follows an 'I do, we do, you do' scaffolded structure. An evaluation by Educate Ventures Research combined a rapid evidence review of alignment with high-impact tutoring principles and an early-stage review of session-level data. It reports that 59.4% of pupils ended a session more confident than they started and 66% showed session-on-session confidence increases. Caveats: there is no control group, sample sizes are not stated on the pages reviewed, and peer review is not indicated. The two public write-ups give different check-in/check-out accuracy figures (30% to 70% on one; 34% to 92% on the other), so within-session gains are not treated as reliable here. Within-session quiz gains also do not show retained learning. The evaluation reports that pupils with English as an additional language and pupils with speech-recognition difficulties find it harder to communicate with Skye, an equity limit for a voice-first tool. This is a promising but early, vendor-adjacent evidence base; an independent controlled trial would be needed for an attainment claim.
