Vietnam's ICT ministry curates and promotes vetted digital-management, cybersecurity and e-commerce platforms for small firms; by October 2024 over 401,000 SMEs were actively using SMEdx platforms, and the scheme has been extended through 2030.
Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communications launched the SMEdx programme in 2021 to accelerate digital transformation among the country's small and medium enterprises, which make up about 97% of all registered businesses. Through the smedx.vn portal, the ministry vets and lists digital platforms across four categories — enterprise management, specialised business operations, cybersecurity and information safety, and sector-specific solutions — so smaller firms can adopt tools without navigating the market alone.
According to VietnamNet, by 10 October 2024 the programme had reached 401,072 SMEs actively using its listed platforms — 100.27% of that year's official target — and recorded 1,284,371 total enterprise interactions with the programme, 80.27% of its target. The government subsequently formalised a longer-term roadmap under Decision 433/QD-TTg, extending the initiative's objectives — including e-contracts, digital signatures, cloud adoption and cross-border e-commerce — through 2030, as reported by Vietnam Briefing.
These figures measure platform sign-ups and usage against government adoption targets rather than independently verified productivity or revenue gains for participating firms, so the programme should be read as strong evidence of reach and institutional durability rather than of proven causal impact on SME performance.
