Researchers at the University of Alicante developed SpectrumSphere, a personalized Learning Management System combining AI, virtual and augmented reality, robotics, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The platform aims to unify otherwise fragmented digital resources, giving teachers real-time, data-driven progress tracking and better collaboration with parents.
Published in Education and Information Technologies in 2026, the study evaluated adoption intention among 30 special-education teachers across schools in the Valencian Community using an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and teachers' computer self-efficacy were the strongest predictors of intention to adopt the platform, while perceived external control (institutional support and infrastructure) worked indirectly by strengthening self-efficacy.
This is a technology-adoption study, not a trial of student learning outcomes: it measures teachers' stated willingness to use SpectrumSphere, not measured gains for autistic students, and the authors note that intuitive interfaces, institutional support, and professional development are still needed before the platform could be used at scale.
