Context

#SuperCoders was created in 2013 within Orange's CSR Group, as part of the 'Better Internet for Kids' project, aimed at children aged 9 to 13.

Objectives

The aim was to increase children's understanding of the digital world, encourage creativity and professional ambitions, and promote social inclusion, helping disadvantaged groups, rural communities, and gender parity.

Workshops use the purpose-made Scratch development platform and are led by Orange volunteers; children take part in a challenge to develop a program, game or animation reflecting one of the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Results

By the programme description, 1,200 volunteers had already been trained and another 1,000 were undergoing training; 20 countries were involved, 10,000 young people had attended since 2014, and by the end of 2016 the programme had reached more than 6,000 children in 17 European and African countries.
