Context
Socialinnov (Social Impact & Innovation) began operations in 2014 as the NGO arm of Found.ation, a leading innovation-enabling platform and accelerator for tech-oriented products and services in South Eastern Europe. It plays a leading role in CS and ICT upskilling/reskilling in Greece, focusing mainly on youth and underserved communities, and is a member of Greece's National Coalition for Digital Skills.
Activities
Tech Talent School was launched in 2016 to address structural unemployment by equipping 16-26 year-olds — mainly young unemployed people, underserved communities, immigrants and refugees — with digital skills and computer science education, from elementary to advanced levels, delivered in person at the organisation's facilities. Since the start of 2017 it has been supported by Microsoft. Launched in Athens, the project has since been implemented in six further Greek cities: Trikala, Ioannina, Heraklion, Veria, Tinos and Larissa, with additional support from the American Embassy in Greece, the Hellenic Entrepreneurship Award and Found.ation.
