Tracka — BudgIT's Community Project-Tracking Platform

Tracka is a civic-technology platform launched in 2014 by the BudgIT Foundation, a Lagos-based nonprofit, that lets citizens monitor the implementation of government-funded capital projects — roads, clinics, boreholes — in their own communities and report on their status via SMS and a web/app interface.

BudgIT deployed a network of Project Tracking Officers who verify projects on-site; the programme has since expanded from an initial 6 states to coverage across 32 of Nigeria's 36 states plus the Federal Capital Territory. BudgIT reports that Tracka and its sister accountability tools have logged more than 17,800 monitored zonal intervention projects and over 3,500 documented citizen success stories, and the wider BudgIT Foundation says its transparency work — including Tracka — has contributed to the completion of previously stalled projects worth billions of naira.

Independent academic coverage corroborates BudgIT's role in Nigeria's civic-tech and budget-transparency ecosystem and its technical-support relationships with state finance and budget directors, but does not itself supply an independently audited counterfactual for Tracka's project-completion claims — the headline figures above are BudgIT's own self-reported monitoring data rather than a third-party evaluation.
