Tucumán province, Argentina, trained teachers in AI through a certified, asynchronous course built on a custom LMS. Officials report 10,800+ completions in 2025; a 130-hour second cohort runs April–September 2026. No learning-outcome evaluation yet.
In the second half of 2025 the Tucumán provincial government, through its Ministry of Education and the Instituto de Desarrollo Productivo (IDEP), launched a provincial AI training programme for teachers with Argencon (the knowledge-economy business association) and the training provider Digital House. Delivery is online and asynchronous on a platform developed for the province, with progress tracked and assessed in the system.
The curriculum covers AI fundamentals, neural networks and the classroom application of AI tools, plus digital ethics and computational thinking. The 2026 second cohort (April–September 2026) is organised in three modules totalling 130 hours: first steps in generative AI (40 h), AI for educators (50 h) and technical foundations of AI (40 h), with mandatory evaluations. Modules are certified individually and the course grants teacher-certification credit within Argentina's education system.
Reported reach: the provincial education authority states that over 10,800 teachers completed the first cohort, directly reaching more than 460,000 students; Digital House describes a plan for around 25,000 teachers across all levels, with about 16,000 targeted in the first phase, over a roughly ten-year horizon.
Caveats: the figures are completion and reach counts published by the organisers. No independent evaluation of changes in teaching practice or student learning has been published, 'students impacted' is an enrolment-based estimate, and a fully asynchronous format depends on teachers' connectivity and time. Press coverage gives slightly different rounded totals (over 10,000 vs 10,800).
