Founded in 1994 next to Tsinghua University in Beijing, TusPark has grown into a 770,000 sqm science park hosting over 1,500 enterprises and institutions, since replicated to 30+ sites across China.
TusPark (Tsinghua University Science Park) was founded in 1994 in the Zhongguancun National Innovation Demonstration Zone adjacent to Tsinghua University in Beijing, with its first building completed in 1998. It formalised a channel for moving research from Tsinghua's laboratories into commercial enterprises, offering incubation space, seed investment and shared R&D infrastructure to spin-outs and independent tech companies alike.
By scale, TusPark is one of the largest university-linked science parks in the world: a built area of roughly 770,000 square metres houses more than 1,500 enterprises and institutions, including over 1,000 dedicated tech companies and R&D units, spanning software, integrated-circuit design, biotechnology and digital communications. The model proved replicable within its own group: Tus-Holdings, the state-linked operator behind TusPark, subsequently opened more than 30 branch parks across mainland China plus sites in Hong Kong and Malaysia, each following the original Beijing park's incubation-plus-real-estate template.
Independent academic assessment (published in Springer's Journal of Technology Transfer) has examined TusPark's institutional evolution, and the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) lists it in its global member directory. What is harder to verify independently is TusPark's own commercial performance data — figures on aggregate enterprise revenue and listed/IPO companies circulate mainly through TusPark's own and affiliate channels rather than externally audited disclosures, which tempers the evidence-of-impact score below the scale and replication scores.
