Université Numérique du Gabon's Techno-Pedagogy and Generative-AI Training for Public University Teacher-Researchers

Gabon's Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Technological Innovation, through the Université Numérique du Gabon (UNG), opened a techno-pedagogy training session on 24 February 2025 at the Université des Sciences de la Santé in Owendo, held partly by videoconference with input from experts across CAMES (the West and Central African higher-education accreditation body) member universities.
Around 50 teacher-researchers drawn from public institutions including ENSET, Omar Bongo University (UOB), INSG and USS took part in a five-day programme covering online course design and scenario-building, configuration of online learning spaces, online assessment, online tutoring, and an introduction to generative AI in teaching. Minister Marcelle Ibinga épouse Itsitsa opened the session, framing digital and AI integration as central to the future of Gabonese higher education.
The training was a single, government-led pilot cohort: no public data on participants' subsequent classroom practice, student outcomes, or completion certification has been published, and further sessions have been described as planned rather than already delivered at scale.
