UNESWA AI Academy — University of Eswatini Certifies Educators in Generative AI

The University of Eswatini (UNESWA) launched its AI Academy (UAIA) in 2024 to build practical AI skills across the country, with 'Generative AI for Educators' as its flagship certificate programme for teachers, trainers and school administrators.

The first cohort graduated at a ceremony at The George Hotel on 21 February 2025. By its third cohort, the Academy reported that its two flagship courses — Generative AI for Educators and the newer Mastering Generative AI for Professionals — had together trained over 200 participants, drawn not only from Eswatini but from Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe and Nigeria. The programme reached its seventh educator cohort by September 2026, and the Academy has since added a Generative AI for the Legal Profession track.

The curriculum covers AI literacy, prompt engineering, using generative AI to create learning materials and personalised feedback, and streamlining administrative tasks, taught by a faculty of nine university facilitators.

The University has not published participant assessment data, classroom-impact evaluation, or completion-rate statistics; public reporting to date covers enrolment, cohort counts and graduation ceremonies rather than measured learning or teaching-practice outcomes.
