In 2020, on International Women's Day, the Croatian Journalists' Union launched the "Women, Journalists, and Other Dangerous Things" campaign in response to well-documented gender gaps in Croatian media and society: a persistent gender pay gap, women holding only 27% of management positions despite being 39% of the global workforce, just 8% on-screen presence for women in Croatian TV news despite journalism being a predominantly female profession, and widespread online harassment of women.
The campaign advocates for equal pay for equal work, equal representation across programming, equal employment and promotion opportunities for women in media, and stronger protection for female journalists from online abuse and harassment.
Activities described include public awareness-raising, advocacy for policy change within media organisations, continuous education on women's rights, sexism and discrimination, promotion of gender equality across film, sport and the wider workplace, and efforts to involve men as allies in equality initiatives.
The campaign is documented here as a self-reported advocacy initiative drawn from the promoter's own website; no independent evaluation of its effect on pay gaps, on-screen representation, or harassment levels has been published.
