The German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) adopted its Strategy for Gender Equality 2016-2020 at the 2016 women's general assembly, aligned with the EU Commission's 2014-2020 Strategic Actions for Sport. The strategy sets four thematic priorities: gender equality in sport decision-making, gender equality in coaching and refereeing, combating gender-based violence in and through sport, and countering negative gender stereotypes and their portrayal in the media.
The initiative aims to increase women's representation and confidence in sports leadership, build a supportive network among current and aspiring female leaders, and help DOSB's member associations implement gender-equality measures with dedicated expert guidance.
Three linked measures make up the practice. Leadership Talent Camps bring together 10 to 20 women who are interested in, or have recently held, a leadership position for a two-day programme (about €3,000 per camp) of workshops on communication, negotiation, public speaking and conflict management, supported by a team of successful women from industry, science, politics and sport management. The mentoring programme 'As a mixed double to the top', running since 2012, pairs 20 to 25 young former female athletes (mentees) with experienced male and female leaders from sports organisations over a one-year cycle (about €20,000-30,000). A Team of Experts -- women from sport, politics and science -- gives DOSB member associations professional advice and coaching, holding about four consultations a year (about €4,000 each) to support implementation and motivate women toward leadership roles.
The three measures work together to raise awareness of gender issues among DOSB's member organisations and build a network of expertise, but the source material describes activities and strategy rather than an independent evaluation of outcomes.
