Namibian startup YYeni, founded by NUST students who won Huawei's 2023 Tech4Good Global Competition, is piloting its AI tutoring chatbot at Lüderitz Secondary School with Telecom Namibia connectivity and Ministry of Education endorsement, targeting 25 schools and 2,500 learners b
Namibian startup YYeni was founded by NUST students Vitalis Haupindi and Lotto Nanghonda Jr. at the NUST Innovation Hub, who won first place and US$100,000 in Huawei's 3rd Seeds for the Future Tech4Good Global Competition in January 2024, building an AI tutoring study-assistant chatbot.
In July 2025, YYeni launched a five-month research pilot at Lüderitz Secondary School in southwestern Namibia, integrating its AI tutoring product alongside regular teacher-led instruction, with a stated goal of scaling to 25 schools and 2,500 learners by the end of 2026.
Telecom Namibia provided the connectivity infrastructure needed to run the pilot in the remote coastal town, and the pilot is endorsed by Namibia's Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture as a blueprint-building exercise; prior to this government-backed pilot, YYeni was already used in some private Namibian schools.
As of this review, no outcome data — learning gains, usage rates or teacher feedback — from the Lüderitz pilot has been published; coverage to date documents the launch and the company's credentials, not a post-pilot evaluation.
