Uruguay's first private Free Zone (1987), Zonamerica hosts 350+ multinationals and tech companies — including TCS, Sabre and Merck — employing 10,000 workers and generating 1.82% of Uruguay's GDP; twice named Best Free Zone in the Americas.
Zonamerica was created in 1987 as Uruguay's first private Free Zone, operating under the national Free Zone law that exempts tenant companies from national taxes. Located just outside Montevideo's urban perimeter, the campus offers world-class infrastructure — including a tier-3 data centre (DC1), modern office and logistics facilities, and shared digital networks — positioning itself as a gateway for multinational companies serving Latin American and global markets.
By 2024, over 350 companies were operating on site, including TCS (Tata Consulting Services, which grew from 15 to 600+ employees since 2002), Sabre (950 employees in contact-centre and technology operations), Merck, CITI, Julius Baer, PWC, Altisource, Ricoh, Despegar.com and Trafigura. Total on-site employment exceeds 10,000 workers. According to a census by Uruguay's National Institute of Statistics (INE), Zonamerica contributes 1.82% of Uruguay's GDP — an outsized share for a single campus.
In 2011 Zonamerica was selected by the Americas Free Trade Zones Association (AZFA) as the Best Free Zone in the Americas; in 2014, fDi Magazine (Financial Times Group) repeated the recognition. The zone also hosts a modern data centre and advanced logistics facilities, consolidating its role as Uruguay's premier hub for high-value business and technology services.
